The time is crucial and observing its body language and temperament you shall have to give the command. But within minutes of its barking give the "quiet" command. Try to reward it the moment it stops barking. This is extremely important. But if it goes on barking, give the "no" command in the strongest manner. Only through regular training it will becomes conscious of these commands.

Try to train it regularly. A regular schooling can only train it your dog to bark.
