Knowing how to potty train a puppy is one thing but applying what you know is another. Today, there are many puppy training books and courses that teach you how to potty train your dog or puppy.
Training your puppy takes a lot of patience but it is a rewarding experience both for the dog owner and the house cleaner later on.
Here are five easy steps used by veterinarians to teach their pet dogs which can easily be done at home:
1. Before everything else, you should have a piece of old newspaper in one hand and try not to let the puppy see what you are holding.
2. Every morning, you should take the puppy out for a walk.
3. Allow the puppy to sniff around. It somehow helps him feel relieving himself.
4. If the puppy makes a potty or takes a piss then take out the newspaper and compliment him for a job well done.
5. This should also be done at night, using the same routine with the newspaper.
These steps should be undertaken until the puppy learns the routine. The purpose of taking him every morning and evening is for him to know that when that time comes it is the right time for him to pee.
There would even come a time that he would be the one who will remind you. Taking out the newspaper every time he makes a pee would teach him where he is supposed to pass his urine. After a while, you can simply place the newspaper at a certain location in your house and your puppy will know what to do when it needs to pee.
Potty training your puppy isn't difficult actually, you just need time and a lot of patience.
