Obedience training is extremely essential for a dog. There are a few commands that it must know so that you are free from any unruly behavior. But training is not that simple. These rewards can be in the form of edible treats or encouraging words. In most cases the training is most effective if you use a combination of both. If it does not behave in the manner you wanted you need to let it know that by a stern toned "NO" and the only punishment you can give is to withhold the treat.

An effective way of training is to use an auditory prop like a clicker. The clicker emits a click sound that can be used to define the exact act that is expected. Like when you are teaching the dog to sit, as soon as it's behind touches the floor you must click the clicker and the treat should follow. This way the sound is associated with good behavior and treats and this is a technique that has been found to be most effective. The dog finds it easier to connect the act, sound and treat rather than most conventional techniques wherein it is not exactly sure what act brought on the reward.
