The Dog Whispering Works

Have any of you seen "The Dog Whisperer" with Ceasar Milan on television? We discovered the show a couple of months ago and watch it faithfully every day. We got our chihuahua last July. She picked me. When we went to the breeder, the lady brought out all the little puppies. They were rambunctious and were balls of energy. Most of them were the typical short haired brown ones, but the runt of the litter was a black and white female with longer hair.

The other puppies were playing rough with her. I was sitting on the ground. She came right up to me and sat in my lap. She looked at me as if to say, "Please take me home." I took her home and named her Tiffy. She was shy for a little while, under she became familiar with her surroundings. The movie, "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" was what inspired me to get one.

All was well for a while, until Tiffy developed the habit of growling, snapping and biting when she was woken. I didn't even touch her! I stopped letting her sleep with me and she slept in her own bed. One night, when I got up to go to the bathroom, she bit me on the shin as my feet came down over the bed onto the floor. She took a pretty large chunk of flesh. I was yelling for my husband, but he was snoring away. I was bleeding. I should have gone to the urgent care center for stitches, but I was so sleepy and just wanted to go back to bed, even though my leg was throbbing. I put a bandage on and hoped it would heal. I took about two months to heal.

After the incident, my husband noticed that Tiffy was doing this growling and snapping at me frequently and that she seemed to think she was in charge. She didn't do it with him. When we began watching the "Dog Whisperer", we tried the techniques offered on the show. It was amazing that it actually worked. The technique of using a quick "ssst" sound and blocking with the hand is more effective than words.

I'm happy to report that Tiffy no longer snaps at me. She has become more lovable. She is behaving around visitors and other dogs. If you're having trouble with your cute little companion, check out the show. It's very informative. The techniques are simple and effective.
