How To Potty Train The Dog?

Something most new Dog owners ask. To potty train the Dog takes time and work on our behalf. It won't happen overnight.

Whether you have a Puppy or an older Dog in your home house training rules are similar, with the difference that a Puppy will need to go much more often. They need to go after every activity whatever it is. They will also be eating more meals so obviously will need to go more.

There are some general rules which apply to all Dogs that need to be house trained.

  • You need to ensure that you let them outside on a very regular basis. It is no good scolding a Dog if it has been inside for hours and made a mess. It takes time for them to be able to wait. Let them out as often as you can in the day. This may mean coming home for lunch or getting a friend to let them out for you.
  • Limit the amount of food and liquids you give them in the evenings. Bear in mind it takes about ten hours for dry food to pass through a mature Dog. Feed it early in the morning and at a suitable time in the evenings. Once your Dog is trained then they can wait significantly longer. The guideline is for training purposes.
  • Puppies cannot wait as long as this is where many problems lie.
  • Night time accidents are normally the main problem for many owners of both Puppies and older Dogs. The following is the way to train them but it involves real work. You need to set an alarm for say three am. If there is no accident let the Dog out until it does its business, it there has been an accident set it for earlier the next night. Every night you will gradually put the alarm forward until it is at the normal wake up time. It takes a week or two but it does work fantastically well.

Hopefully these few of the many Dog Potty Training Tips there are will be a great help in house training your Puppy or Dog.
