Dog Potty Training Can Be Tough - Learn Some Basic Tips

Dog potty training is easiest when a dog is still just a puppy. It's much more of an uphill battle with adult dogs and older puppies that are not housebroken yet. They usually can have some bad habits to break. It's important and key to time the "ins and outs" for your dog potty training. Young puppies usually need to pee or poop about fifteen or twenty minutes after they have food or water. Keep and eye on your puppy and make sure it gets outside on time.

The basics of dog potty training for a puppy include:

1. Taking him outside. As soon as your puppy wakes up in the morning you need to take it outside. Take it out again after breakfast, lunch, naps, after being in its crate, after dinner, after any snacks, before bedtime, and if the puppy whimpers or feels upset at night. You also want to make sure it doesn't have any dog vomiting problems. Praise your puppy in a nice cheery tone when it goes to the bathroom outside.

2.Only give your dog food and water if you can take it outside right afterwards. You should never let your dog be without fresh water available, but if you limit it during the weeks you're training this can speed up the potty training process. Your dog will learn more quickly and there will be fewer accidents in the house. Just don't let your dog get dehydrated by using good judgment.

3. When your puppy pees or poops where you don't want him to just quietly clean it up. Ignore the dog while you clean it up and don't talk to him lovingly or in an annoyed tone. It's best to never yell or physically punish your dog for this.

4. Keep your puppy with you as much as possible when you are at home. Keep him nearby at your side or even in the crate if you must too. Keep the puppy in the crate as little as possible though if you're crate training.

Take these steps and your dog potty training will speed up and go much more smoothly.
