Dog Obedience School You Do Not Need It - How To Do It Yourself

Monday, March 7, 2011

Have you ever heard of the man who spent his life in search of a buried treasure? On his death bed he discovered that he had all the treasure that he could ever dream of buried right in his very own backyard. I am often reminded of that story when I see dog owners in search of a magical solution for training their own dog. In reality their solution is right before them, and the goal of this article is to help you find the buried treasure in your backyard which is effective online dog training strategies that you can apply yourself.

The most difficult part for most people is to grasp the fact that dog obedience school is not primarily about the dog but training the owner. The reason for this is because most pet owners (myself included) believe that our pet is the smartest pet on earth. The truth is, all pets are not created equal - some learn at a fast pace while others take a little longer.

Preparing dog obedience school in your home begins with a game plan. You should first decide who will be the trainer out of those in your family. This is important because the dog has to know who is in charge. If multiple members of the family attempt to train the family dog, this will do nothing but confuse the dog which will lead to negative results.

You will want to establish a set routine that you will be able to commit to on an on going basis. Your sessions should not be considered a task, it should be a time that you look forward to. If you have a training session with your dog and you are not enthusiastic about it, your dog will pick up on it, and your efforts will be worthless.

You do not want to overwhelm your dog by trying to teach him or her to many things at one time. Allow your dog to master one lesson at a time. Remember this is something new for you and your dog. For example my friends dog was able to master the sit command in a few days. When it came to my dog it took close to two weeks for my dog to master it. Keep in mind we were both using the same course. It is also important to note that every dog will learn at a different pace.

The main part that will determine the success or failure of your dog training lesson is the bond that you build between you and your dog. Being patient is another important key ingredient that you will need in order to achieve the results you desire. If you take nothing else away from this article take this - repetition is the mother of all skill, and consistency is a must.
