For this technique to be effective, the crate used must be just big enough for your dog to turn around and lie down comfortably. Now, Boxers can grow to become very large dogs, so it may be a good idea to buy a large crate and then just place a cardboard divider to limit the space that your puppy has access to. You may adjust the cardboard divider accordingly, as your puppy begins to grow.

Take note that your puppy is likely to engage in a lot of whining when you first undertake Boxer puppy training. It is important that you DO NOT let him out of his crate until the whining stops. This will let him know that whining will not be tolerated and that good behaviour earns him rewards. When you go to open the crate, be prepared with a leash and some treats so that you can begin your obedience training sessions outside as soon as your dog is done eliminating.

Remember that positive reinforcement is an essential part of Boxer puppy training, so be sure to praise your puppy every time he does his business in the right spot. You may also give him treats as a reward.
